Quantum of Solace
The 007 series continues with Quantum of Solace starring a very dashing Daniel Craig as Bond, James Bond. This film picks up right where Casino Royale left our clever hero and launches right into action. The opening of the movie is so intense and feverish your eyes will not be able to keep pace with the choppy, lightning-fast chase scenes. This movie has big hype and with big acting, big action, and big plot, the film won't let you down.
The action pauses briefly in the first few minutes of the film so Bond and M can interrogate their hostage, Mr. White, about his secret organization Quantum. Finding out nothing except that M's bodyguard is a traitor, the action continues to rage as Bond hunts down the bodyguard through the streets (and rooftops) of Siena, Italy. Bond always gets his man (and woman of course) which leads him into further research and more top secret operations.
The plot is fairly intricate with characters that may or may not be villains, double agents, or allies. Head of Greene Planet, Dominic Greene is after sole possession of a portion of the Bolivian desert and the domination of the country's water supply. To bring down Greene and the corrupt Bolivian officials, Bond teams up with Camille, a Bolivian-Russian agent, who has her own agenda for getting involved. No Bond film would be complete without a Bond Girl and QoS features Fields, Strawberry Fields, a sexy field agent of the MI6 that is supposed to bring in Bond when M feels he has gone renegade. What happens next? Bond gets his man (and woman) amidst fantastic location, boat races, Aston Martin chases, gun fights, knife fights, regular fist fights, the action just never stops. QoS was just short of 2 hours and it will sneak up on you as good movies do.
Purists will argue that the new Bond series lack similarity to the feel of the previous 007s, with new styles and more guns, but Craig's Bond is every bit as suave, fierce, and charming as a Bond should be. Having less humor than the former Bonds, this film makes up for it in the smartness of technology. Quantum of Solace is a slick updated Bond for our times and audiences will be pleased.
