Do You Know by Jessica Simpson
She’s had an interesting career in the entertainment industry thus far, and with her new album Do You Know, Jessica Simpson is embarking into new territory. The only question is, is she ready?
Do You Know is the much-publicized country genre debut album for the “Newlyweds” babe after she failed to make any major waves in the mainstream pop world. And while some are saying that it’s her strongest album yet, it’s important to keep in mind its lack of competition.
Leading off the album is her first single “Come on Over.” In reality, the song is merely a pop ditty with some southern twang mixed in, which, as it turns out, is a good move. The single is doing well for Simpson thanks to the clever wordplay and catchy melody.
Unfortunately, it’s pretty much all downhill from there. Despite the fact that she hired some amazing studio musicians, engineers, and producers, the album falls pretty flat due to shortcomings in the songwriting department. Even Dolly Parton’s tunes, by-and-large, leave something to be desired as a result of their predictability and lack of authenticity.
“You’re My Sunday,” the song Jessica has dedicated to her boyfriend Tony Romo during her concerts, is a perfect example of the generic songwriting that is all over this album. There is virtually no distinction between the verse and chorus (except for volume, of course) and the lyrics sound thrown-together and uninspired.
The only major standout track (besides Come on Over) is “Still Beautiful.” This song is a fantastic example of a country pop hit, laced with hooks galore and an accessible format that flows from one section to the next effortlessly.
Overall, listeners would do best to plunk down $2 to buy “Come on Over” and “Still Beautiful” and save the other $8 for a rainy day.

GOOD REVIEW!
I agree with this review. I love Jessica Simpson and her voice but thought her album was BORING! When listening to songs for the first time, I could guess the next rhyme. C'mon, Jess! You do listen to music other than your own, don't you??
